I don’t drink nearly as much coffee as I used to.
In fact, I stop drinking it altogether sometimes and find that I don’t crave it as much (and I used to really crave it!).
There are so many other drinks you can have these days instead of coffee, I didn’t feel like I was missing it much.
But some days you just want a coffee.
Especially the dreary-I-wish-the-warm-weather-would-come-already days.
So that’s when I make a latte at home with a bit of coffee.
I prefer to make a healthier latte at home most of the time because I can add in some ingredients that pack a nutritional punch (no sugary syrups for me please!).
If you know me, you know this isn’t your typical latte. Here’s what I do to make a healthier latte at home:
How to Make a Healthier Latte at Home
- Coffee maker
- 1 cup brewed decaf coffee organic bird-friendly, swiss water decaf preferred
- 1 cup organic coconut milk heated
- 1 tbsp Great Lakes Collagen Read more below about the benefits of using collagen
- 1 tbsp Virgin coconut oil
- 1 tbsp Raw honey
- Sprinkle of cinnamon
- Blend everything in a blender and enjoy!
Collagen is the richest form of protein that is found in so many areas of our bodies including our blood cells, muscles, tendons (keeping those joint lubricated!), skin and it also assists our digestive system.1 We need collagen in our bodies for it to work optimally, but it starts to diminish as we age so we need to keep adding it in our diets whether it’s through a supplement or by sipping on bone broth. One tablespoon of collagen powder provides about six grams of protein which also makes it a great addition to your post-workout smoothies.
Yes! You can use any type of milk for this. I’ve also tried it with almond, cashew, and brazil nut milk
Personally, regular coffee increases my anxiety and has a negative affect on some cysts I have in my body. Decaf doesn’t have the same effect so when I drink coffee I drink decaf.
Definitely! This would be fantastic with your favourite matcha or Dandy Blend. Brew the matcha according to the package and add it to the blender with the other ingredients. If you’re using Dandy Blend, I like to add 1 tbsp of Dandy Blend along with 1 tbsp cacao powder. Delish!
