This Apple Sauce Bread is an Easy Snack Idea

by Stephanie

sliced apple sauce bread in a white oval dish

These days I’m trying *really* hard to control my grocery bill and with that comes using what I have on hand to make food! I made banana bread on the weekend, but everyone ate it (how rude!), so I needed something else for a snack this week. I didn’t have bananas, but I did have […]

Chunky vegetable soup in a white bowl with a spoon

Recipe: Easy Pumpkin Soup I see it sitting there. On your counter. It’s been there for a couple of weeks now, hasn’t it? You keep looking at it every day wondering what the heck to do with it. I know you just don’t know what to do with that miniature pumpkin you got in your […]

What’s in Season in Spring? Green Garlic.

by Stephanie

green garlic laying in a basket

Since local foods are starting to pop up (literally! I’m starting to see them coming in my garden!), I’m going to start a new series to talk about a few of them and how we can use them in our cooking. In the past couple of weeks, you may have seen something that looks kind […]

Want More Flavourful Meals? Add Shallot!

by Stephanie

single bulb of shallot

There’s a little vegetable you may have seen at the grocery store many times but didn’t take because you didn’t know what to do with it.  It has a ton of flavour and can boost the flavour profile of many meals you make at home. Especially those pantry meals! It’s small, the colour of rust and kind […]

It takes more of an effort for me, but when I go it’s magical especially in the snow with all of the lights. Plus we get the added benefit of fresh air before bed. I highly recommend it!

There ‘s a lot you can do to stay healthy in this There ‘s a lot you can do to stay healthy in this super sick season.

As much as possible eat whole foods. I have teens so you know… this isn’t always in my control but do what you can at home.

Wash your hands! You don’t need antibacterial soap… just regular soap will do the trick.

Keep up with vitamins and minerals. Lemon water with a bit of salt first think in the morning and teas throughout the day.

My kids take the first few supplements every day and the last few when they feel something coming on.

I’m a huge fan of lemon ginger buckwheat honey tea when sick. Buckwheat works well on coughs!

Eat a big breakfast, go to bed early, get outside and get some exercise. When you’re sick go outside for fresh air.

There’s more weirdo stuff I can tell you about but this is a great start.

(I really hope I don’t jinx our family with this post! 🤪).

P.S. I’m not a doctor. I’m simply telling you what has worked for my family for years.
